Many of the older vehicles have now hit the stage where the upper control arm ball joint is worn. Previously a complete replacement was required with dealers asking around $450 per arm. Owners could take their chances with a junkyard part but there was no guarantee it was any better than what was to be replaced. We have finally taken on designing a replacement ball joint to compliment our inner mount Poly bushings and make it possible to completely refurbish the Upper control arm to new condition. Our ball joints are press fit and feature a durable neo2 boot to prevent tearing and a heat treated ball stud that is the slightly lower profile than the factory.
Version 2 Features
-Neo 2 boot is more durable and lower profile. We also not ship them unattached making damage during press-fit less of a problem. Once installed, simply wrap the retaining spring around the boot.
-Now with a snap ring (horseshoe washer). While our previous version was a tight press fit, we got a lot of questions about the snap ring. We added it to address any customer concerns. The only trick is that a new tool is required to compress this style of spring. We suggest the "Proto J250G Proto 9-Inch Lock Ring Horseshoe Washer Pliers"
-New heavy flange nut for better support against the spindle. E-coating makes it last longer in the elements.
Sold as a set for each side of the vehicle.
We strongly suggest a shop press for installation with support against the back of the factory cup. Lift off the boot during installation to prevent damage. The boot will stay in place via compression between the knuckle and the arm when installed, but a new boot clip is included for the customer to add further retention.
